Having a beautiful home is very important to many people. When a home is decorated, people feel more comfortable spending time in the home or inviting friends over for a get-together. Utilizing home decor ideas won’t always require a lot of money or major changes. Simple, quick changes can drastically make a difference in a home if a person does not want to waste a lot of time or money making their home beautiful.
Make it Fun!
You would think that decorating a room in one’s house would be a fun project for pretty much anyone. However, there are some people who want the look of well presented rooms but are not too keen on all the work or coming up with various ideas. It can be a difficult task for some people.
Simple Dining Room Ideas
Let’s take a dining room as an example. Typically a dining room will consist of a dining table and chairs, possibly a china cabinet, plants, curtains and lighting fixtures. Because of the relatively few number of items in a typical dining room, it may appear to be a challenge to get the right look without seeming to clutter the area.
Here an example of an easy and quick idea that anyone can do. Try changing the appearance of any lighting fixtures in the dining room that have lampshades. Just add ribbon around the top and/or bottom edges of the shade. A ribbon of similar color to the walls can add just a bit of spice to the room, while a ribbon in a bright color can create some eye-catching contrast.
Accents – Thrifty and Visually Powerful
If the wall color in your dining room may be in for a change, consider using striped patterned ribbons instead of a solid color. For the dining table chairs, you can simply use slipcovers and voila – a totally new look. Of course, slipcovers and such may not be to everyone’s taste, but there are some very high quality, tight fitting covers available these days. If sewing is in your bag of tricks, you can get some patterns and sew your own.
Don’t Forget the Holidays
And of course, during the holidays, any accents you decide to put up can be easily themed to whatever holiday happens to be coming up. These temporary accents highlight the spirit of the season and can be quickly changed as needed. Personally, I love Christmas. I love putting my decorations up all over the house right after Thanksgiving. We put the tree up then too. And I’m one of those who has trouble taking the tree down after Christmas. It usually stays up until mid-January or so much to the chagrin of some neighbors.
Simple Bathroom Ideas
There are many ideas that can also work for bathrooms. Your bathrooms don’t have to be unoriginal and basic. To change the look of your bathroom, a large painting can be used as a mural for the wall. This will add a touch of art and aesthetic to the room. Upgrading the lighting fixtures in the bathroom can be a quick change that will significantly improve the look of the room. Going with modern lighting fixtures will help transform an older bathroom to one that shows as more modern. You don’t need to gut a bathroom to upgrade it. And you’ll save a lot of money too.
If the floors in the bathroom need to be replaced, good quality peel and stick vinyl is a great option. The vinyl can be styled to look like wood or tile. Adding small furniture pieces to a bathroom, such as a narrow but tall shelf, will add extra storage space and give people something to look at. If a wooden vanity is in the bathroom, consider giving it some new paint to freshen up the room. The same thing can be done will the walls.
The Foyer – Just Passing Through
Another room that can be difficult to decorate is the foyer. The foyer in a home tends to be a large space where there’s not much furniture. For this reason, it can be an ideal spot for a family portrait wall. Having no furniture in front of a wall will allow all of the pictures to be seen. To add a bit of seating, an older, attic bench can be used in a foyer. This will allow guests a place to sit as they put on their shoes. If the size of the foyer allows, a display table can be placed in the room to display any antiques or other items that you might want to display.
Make it Fun and Make it Yours
These are just a few ideas for a couple rooms. Once you get into the flow of re-decorating, the ideas will come on their own. Things you never even considered will become obvious. The best advice I can give is for you to look at as many pictures of rooms as you can to generate ideas. Then think of ways you can use those ideas, adapt them to your home and your budget, and add them to your home in a thrifty home decorating way.
Your Home Decor Is Your Statement
The goal with any home decor ideas is to make the home more of what you, the owner, wants. Aside from being the biggest investment most families make, it’s also a reflection of your tastes and your style. It’s a statement. From adding accent pillows to new wall colors to using seating like old benches in foyers, decorating the home doesn’t always have to be difficult or seem overwhelming. Simple changes can be the most effective changes when a room is being decorated.
